By observing the odd phenomenon and trying to account for it at last with consultation of teachers or books察I felt a sense of achievement which filled me with enthusiasm and eagerness to explore the engaging world of Chemistry。
Life as a deputy mini´
Sunday察November 04察2007
Since I became a member of the study department in the student Union察I have done many concrete things with my colleagues such as painting posters察designing questionnaires。 We took delight in cooperating to do our tasks better。
Our beloved minister察Jessica察was about to have her farm study which means living in farmers¨ house for 1 week察to help with farmers and apply what are learnt from books to practice and carry out research。 And it is a tradition of our school which last for roughly 20 years。察so it was important to choose someone among us to take her position temporarily to ensure that everything went smoothly。
Thus Jessica began a small election campaign today and all of us had prepared to run for the position。 Each candidate gave a concise speech within 2 minutes to convince others of his ability。
After Jessica had read all the votes handed in察she announced此 Two of you察Juliet and Mary察who have got the same votes察are about to be the deputy minister when I am in the countryside。 ̄ Therefore察I rose to power as the deputy minister。
It had never occurred to me that a minister has that much to deal with only when I was in the position。 For instance察there was a meeting held by the study department for students to get access to the administrators of the school so that proposal can be put forward or problems can be reflected in time。 The supervisor of the Students Union made demands on our department of a report containing students¨ suggestions and questions together with the leaders¨ responses。 Thus recording scripts of the meeting I had also taken part in recording and tasks must be distributed to every member。
After a negotiation with Mary察the other deputy minister察we arrived at a consensus that she was responsible for distribution while I should receive emails of their drafts and make them into a final formal version察which must be handed in before Sunday evening。
Today察the result of things accords closely with my prediction。 Though they were seemingly enthusiastic to accept their task the day before yesterday on which the election was held察two text messages plaining how much trouble they had to touch the puter or how slow it was for them to input articles on puter appeared on my mobile phone。 Though such attitudes annoyed me察I only suggested them to try and think of a best way to solve the problem in a gentle manner。 Fortunately察because of my clever foresight察I still reserve a copy of my script of the meeting which can be served as a back up in case they wouldn¨t do a good job。 It definitely means that I have to sacrifice much more time for the report since both the input work and modification have to be done on my own。
To my surprise察when I open my email box this evening察two drafts are already waiting for me。 It seems that they are still willing to do the task and their earlier plaint only serves as abreaction。 Glad that I only admonished them to do instead of losing temper to them察or it may did more harm than good。
I replied an encouragement letter to them and they later expressed their thankfulness which made me feel warm。
From this event察I learnt the lesson that a leader should take his or her staff member¨s feeling into account察sometimes gentle words can be more effective than shouting。
I will adjust myself to being a deputy minister and try to convince other members of my ability and make them willing to obey my instructions。 I believe I can do it well。
Vengeance察greed and ´
Saturday察April 12察2008
Today I got a break from my strict察noruffles schedule and watched a movie entitled ^Troy ̄。 The film was so fascinating that it engraved its inspiring dialogues on my mind。 I found it hard to resist the strong desire to write down my erupting thoughts and emotions inspired by the movie。
After Achilles察the bravest and most skillful warrior and one of the kings of Greece察kills Hector the movie¨s hero and prince of Troy察Briseis察the woman Achilles deeply in love with and cousin of Hector察condemns him for his unyielding vengeance with a broken heart此 You lost your cousin察now you¨ve taken mine。 When will it end拭院 It never ends。 ̄ This is the cold reply from Achilles察a man born to fight察yet the endless revenge is the cruel reality。 Sometimes察humans are misled by too many things察such as greed察hatred。 Sense of revenge is the devil that manipulates humans into destroying。 Unfortunately humans all fet that tolerance is the most powerful weapon against vengeance。
^The gods envy us。 They envy us because we are mortals察because any moment may be our last。 Everything is more beautiful because we are doomed。 ̄ This is what Achilles tells Briseis when they argue over the issue of belief in gods。 Achilles philosophy is apparent此Mortal life is ephemeral察yet impermanence is exactly where the beauty lies in life。
The movie offered a new cause of the war contrary to the archaic way of interpreting the reason for the war of Troy察which claimed that the beauty Helen is the bane of peace。 In fact察there is no such a thing as beauty bane。 It was not her fault察a marriage to an old man like Menelaus was a disaster for a young beauty dreaming of romance。 She has the right to pursue freedom and happiness。 It is Agamemnon who is to be blamed for the casualty。 Even regardless of Helen察his greed and evilness will still enkindle the war between Greece and Troy。 Agamemnon says it all此 I always thought my brother¨s wife was a foolish woman but she has proved to be very useful。 ̄ From this we know察Helen only served as an excuse。 The true reason for the war of Troy is Agamemnon¨s desire to control the Aegean。
As for Paris察I disdain him。 He is the man who impudently caused catastrophe but doesn¨t dare to take responsibility。 The coward sought his brother¨s help察dropping to his knees。
Now let¨s e to the two legendary heroes in the war察Hector and Achilles。 Achilles is a man haunted by the vastness of eternity察or else he will not be persuaded by Odysseus¨ words此 let Achilles fight for honor察let Agamemnon fight for power察and let the gods decide which man to glorify。 ̄ Despite his eagerness for war察he is not a blood thirsty brute察he has the ability to empathize with the suffering of other characters。 For example察when Priam察king of Troy sneaks to beg him for Hector¨s body察even if Achilles can have Priam¨s head on a spit in the blink of an eye察he still lets Priam go with his adversary¨s corpse。 And Hector is more respectful。 He loved his family察his land察he fought for his country till the last moment。 They both are immortal in certain ways and their deeds are worthy of emulation。
During the time of preparation for TOEFL iBT察I have written many positions to improve my writing Make a plaint in Person or in WritingWho is the Famous Entertainer or Athlete You would Like to Meet拭Member puters VS。 Traditional Schools are selected from my practicing positions for TOEFL。
Make a plaint in p´
When it es to the point of having to make a plaint about a defective product or poor service察I would rather do it in writing for several conspicuous factors listed as follows
First of all察a plaint letter ensures the accuracy of the description of the current issue。 There are circumstances that your trouble is extremely intricate and needs a logical way to elaborate on it。 Obviously察when writing a letter察you can think carefully and anize the pattern in a prehensive way as well as use sufficient details to substantiate your point。 Whereas plaining in person denies ration of the two sides in question because it is more likely for people to go into quarrel before they have clearly known the problem。
Second察making a plaint in writing can avoid unnecessary conflict。 For instance察when one customer angrily steps in a shop to plain about the defective he has purchased and demands a refund察the shop assistant may be forced into a dilemma because he is not the one in charge and therefore has no right to decide。 In this situation察if the stubborn customer doesn¨t give up and utters malicious words察a fight may ensue。 Hence plaining in writing can save you a lot of aggravation and conflict which you always risk to get by plaining in person。
Last but not least察putting your plaint in words can avoid hurting innocent people。 Possibly when your want to find the one who has offered poor service to you察you actually lose your temper to another assistant since the one in question is absent。 Thus an innocent person serves as a scapegoat for his or her colleague。 This will cause negative impact on their mind。
Admittedly察plaint letter may get ignored while plaining in person is more impressive。 However察the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and as a result察plaining in writing is my preference。
Who is the famous ent´
Among numerous respectable people in the world察my admiration still focuses on one eminent actress!!Audrey Hepburn。 I don¨t think it¨s an exaggeration to claim that Audrey Hepburn is the most universally beloved actress who ever worked in the field of movie。 Thus I would choose Audrey Hepburn if I were granted the chance to meet a famous entertainer or athlete in the world。 There are at least three factors that lead me to make this decision。
No matter what happened to her察Hepburn always maintained a high spirit。 When her hometown!!Belgium was invaded by Germans in 1939察her mother moved the family to Netherlands in the belief that it was safer from German attack。 During the Dutch Famine over the winter of 1944察Germans confiscated the Dutch people¨s limited food and fuel supply for themselves。 Suffering from malnutrition察Hepburn developed acute anemia察respiratory problems and oedema。 Despite the harsh conditions察as a proficient ballerina at that time察Hepburn secretly danced to collect money for the Dutch resistance。 Her persistence and attempt to make a difference for peace in the world have long inspired me。
Her astonishing beauty察her elfin smile and her grace have captivated the whole world。 She caught eye of Hollywood察and soon scored her Oscarwinning role in Roman Holiday。 In the next 14 years察she appeared in a succession of unfettable movies that kept her at the forefront of Hollywood stars察including Funny Face察Breakfast at Tiffany¨s and My Fair Lady。 By playing her role with all her efforts察her charm stood the test of time since her films can bring us with various emotional experiences。
Audrey Hepburn was also known as a humanitarian。 After her film career察she was appointed a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations International Children¨s Emergency Fund UNICEF。 In the years that followed察Hepburn made a series of UNICEF field trips to Turkey察Thailand察and Sudan and so on。 She also worked tirelessly for UNICEF when not making field trips。 She testified before the US congress察designed fundraising cards察participated in benefit concert tours and gave many speeches and interviews promoting UNICEF¨s work。 Her dedication of the remainder of her life to helping impoverished children in the poorest nations deserves our reverence。
Thus I want to meet Audrey Hepburn and express my gratitude and respect to her。 I also want to tell her about my willingness to take her as my role model because of her persistence察her love for her career and her devotion for the needy people around the world。
Member vs。 leader
The issue whether it is better to be a leader or a member in a group may ignite hot debates among people since opinions vary from person to person。 However察as far as I am concerned察it is better to be a leader rather than a follower。 There are three conspicuous factors listed as follows
Firstly察being a leader asks for more talent and special ability in dealing with challenges and making decisions。 Obviously in reality察there are few people who can meet the standards of leading a group。 Thus察because of the difficulty of finding a capable substitute察it is less likely for a leader to be superseded in parison with a member。 As a result察being a leader guarantees a higher ine and a stable position in the pany。
Secondly察the position of leader enables one to make full use of his/her own intelligence。 While being a member察one should follow the orders and instructions given by their supervisor even though he or she doesn¨t consider them practical。 Which makes things worse察when there is a negative consequence察the blame is placed on all the members of the group instead of the leader。 On the contrary察though meetings may be held for members to put forward their proposals and build consensus察ultimate decision always remains for the leader to make。 In this sense察one is free from others¨ restriction to decide according to his or her experience and insight。
Last but not least察being a leader gain more sense of achievement than being a follower。 When a group has an overall successful result察it is monly believed that such an acplishment should be attributed to the perfect work of the leader。 So it is more likely for a leader to gain public recognition than a member of a group。
Admittedly察disadvantages do acpany the position of a leader。 There are circumstances that a leader should suffer from most of the stress or even察misunderstanding from subordinators。 Nevertheless察advantages outweighs disadvantages and I assert that it is better to be a leader rather than a follower。
puters vs。 traditi´
The issue as to whether it is more beneficial to study at home by using technology or study at traditional schools would ignite hot debates among students as both ways have pros and cons。 However察as far as I am concerned察I prefer to go to traditional schools for three factors此disciplined learning察good facilities and interpersonal skills。
Although learning from puters and television is more flexible察it is void of disciplined learning environment provided by schools。 The school¨s curriculum is under considerable plantation察ensuring the balance among each particular subject and is taught according to a reasonable timetable。 Thus traditional school education cultivates wellrounded students察who meet the needs of modern society。 While studying at home through puters and televisions察the discipline is absent。 Since students are inclined to subjects that appeal to them察some interested at a certain subject may devote most of their time to this field察ignoring other realms of knowledge that is dispensable in their life。 Such an erratic and unbalanced reading habits inhibits overall development and conse
